Two Reasons to Consider Fighting a Traffic Ticket

If you drive regularly, the odds are pretty good that you’ll get a speeding or other traffic ticket at some point in your life. There’s also a decent chance that you’ll get a second traffic ticket, or a third, or more. Even the most careful drivers are not immune from being pulled over. Many people who receive a traffic ticket in Florida think it’s no big deal – just pay the fines or go to traffic school and be done with it. The reality, however, is that if you simply pay or decide not to fight your ticket, you won’t be done with it. You’ve pled guilty. A traffic offense can cause you serious problems for a long time and cost you more than just fines and court costs.

That is why you should think long and hard before you just give up and accept your fate. In fact, you should contact an experienced and aggressive Miami traffic ticket lawyer who can fight the allegations against you and work tirelessly to get your case dismissed. Keep in mind that a ticket doesn’t mean you’re guilty – it is an allegation by the police officer that you were breaking the law. Police officers still must prove beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law, that you were guilty of the offense.

Here are two reasons you should consider fighting a Florida traffic ticket:

  • You will have a conviction on your record. If you pay the fine on your traffic ticket, you are essentially admitting your guilt, just like if you were standing before a judge. As with any guilty plea, it means you will be convicted of an offense. That conviction will go on your record and stay there for at least 10 years. If you choose traffic school to avoid points on your record, you are guaranteeing yourself a record for life. This is because the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has to keep track of how many times a driver has elected to attend traffic school as the law only permits drivers to choose traffic school five times during their lifetime. So, they put your offense on the public record for all to see forever and this may be held against you in the future.

  • The points will cost you. Traffic offenses in Florida go on your driving record and accumulate “points.” If you accumulate too many points, your license could be suspended and if you drive then, you may even face time behind bars. But even the smallest number of points can cost you plenty. Your points can and likely will result in higher auto insurance rates for up to five (5) years or make it hard for you to obtain insurance at all.

I have been successfully fighting traffic tickets throughout the state of Florida for almost three decades. At the Ticket Law Center in Miami, we understand how tempting it can be to pay the fine and plead guilty to a traffic offense. We also know how costly a decision that can be. That is why we make it convenient for you to fight every traffic ticket every time by using our services. But, there is a difference - unlike a lot of other firms, we actually go to trial and aim for a dismissal on every ticket – not just a reduction or no points! Our objective is for you keep a clean record and avoid the consequences that can come with a Florida speeding ticket or other traffic violation. If you’ve been pulled over and ticketed, please give us a call so we can begin fighting on your behalf.
